Best Wishes for 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE KAA!

The KAA would like to wish every member and associate of the club Best Wishes for the New Year 2012.

It is at this time of year when it is cold and dark that training is often put on the back burner.  However if you need a break and want to de-stress training with like minded people is a great way of coping with this hectic period.  The New Year is often a time to reflect on the excesses of the last month and think about getting fit.  Aikido offers an opportunity to get both mentally and physically fit.  The style of training builds posture and supplety even if you feel an unlilkely candidate to do this type of training jsut a few weeks will have you feeling the benefit of a unique type of training.

We look forward to seeing you at the dojo.

Recent News

After many months of hard work, dedication and commitments the refurbishment of the dojo is nearly complete.  The painting was a major undertaking but all the kanja’s and decorations have been cleaned and refreshed along with a new stand for the weapons which were built by Mike, one of the students.  The final task was to replace the well worn mats.  These were laid recently and have helped make the training area even better.  Sensei Robinson has done a wonderful job with the dojo assisted by various students when possible.  We look forward to welcoming you to the dojo to learn and improve the dynamic martial art of Aikido.

Gradings

Congratulations to all those who graded on Sunday 25 September 2011. Despite the exceptional warm weather the gradings standards were high and every effort was made to maintain good technique.  The Kokyu Aikido Association wishes to give special congratulations to Andy and Mike who continue to show commitment to their club and to Aikido.  To see these students grading - visit our gallery.

The next Kyu grading will be in March 2012.

Courses

NATIONAL AIKIDO COURSE

HOSTED BY THE KOKYU AIKIDO ASSOCIATION

The KAA hosted the 2011 national Aikido course in Oldham on Sunday 7 August. Clubs came from various parts of the country.  The chief instructor was the highly respected Shihan Gwynne Jones 8th Dan of the Bristish Aikido Board and chief instructor of the Shin Gi Tai aikido organisation of Wales.

Students varied from white belts to 6th Dan.  It was a very busy day with lots of techniques shown, and practised, including some weapons work.

Everyone had a great day which finished at 3.30pm with some students having to travel to and from Newcastle and South Wales.  Many thanks to all those students who attended as it was a memorable day.

With special thanks to Sensei Gwynne Jones, our guest instructor.
